Georgia Breast Density Law – How Will You Comply?

The state of Georgia became the 38th state to enact a breast tissue density law. The bill, also known as “Margie’s Law,” states that all mammography providers must include updated information about density to patients with dense breast tissue.

This bill goes into effect on July 1. With its passage, more than 90% of American women will now receive some form of tissue density notification through state legislation.

The FDA recently announced changes to the MQSA regulations, including requiring tissue density notification to patients. These changes are still under review, and they likely will not be required for over a year and a half.

States may still override this requirement, however, with their own existing regulations. Fortunately, the MagView Mammography Information System can be fully automated to incorporate the breast density verbiage in your patients’ notification letters.
